Feel free to drop us a line, or send in an
e-mail to pypm@madd.org, and a member of the PY/PM staff will be more than happy to help you with answering any questions that you can muster up.
Why target children in elementary school?
Use of alcohol is starting earlier. Alcohol is the Number 1 drug of choice for young people today and they are starting to drink at earlier ages than ever before. Research tells us that we must begin to teach children about alcohol five years before they are exposed to the risk to make a difference.
Are there evaluation tools available for each grade level?
Yes, there are pre- and post-surveys to assess the impact of PY/PM on elementary students. All surveys are anonymous. All those trained in the program have access to the evaluation materials via the PY/PM website in the password protected area. We have provided a “do-it-yourself” version of the evaluation materials. It includes a short survey for students in grades 3-5 with administration directions and an Excel spreadsheet with instructions for entering the survey data. Once the data have been entered, the Excel spreadsheet automatically provides a chart showing the changes from pre-survey to post-survey.
If your school district is interested in conducting a more thorough evaluation, we have more detailed evaluation materials available. They include surveys for students in Grades 1-3 and Grades 4-5. These materials are also available to download for anyone trained in PY/PM via the PY/PM website.
Anyone considering utilizing any surveys should consult their district’s evaluation office or its equivalent before moving ahead with surveying to make sure all evaluation requirements are covered.
